These days, doing business online has become equivalent, in many cases, to doing business in general. And because doing business online has empowered most of us to do business anywhere and at any time, the business activities we can perform online are growing, becoming more straightforward, and evolving.

Of course, doing and managing businesses online is not a novelty at this point. What is novel is the new variations of business models that are becoming available, the requirements for taking advantage of these models, and the constant evolution these models go through.

Perhaps considering how e-commerce has changed through the years is the best example of how drastically business models can evolve and change.

E-Commerce Before

At the dawn of e-commerce (and at the advent of the Internet, for that matter), taking advantage of this business model was just for those with enough money to invest in inventory, transportation, logistics, etc. Communication and messaging facilities weren't as readily available as they are now, and having feedback from your customers was an effort on its own.

Promoting your business required investment in traditional media (like TV, newspapers, radio, etc.) and trust that the people using the Internet (whose adoption was starting to get into place) would eventually access your site as search engines were evolving. Indeed, because Internet users weren't a majority, nobody could make an online-only strategy.

It would have been unimaginable for a single individual, or a small team, to be able to manage a shop at this point, for all the previously mentioned constraints.

E-Commerce These Days

But let's fast forward to these days.

These days, with novel business models such as dropshipping, where you sell products from AliExpress and Amazon as if they were yours (and earn an income through strategically determining the price so products are accessible, and yet you can make a decent commission per item) and then let the big companies handle the shipping and logistics, you can now have a store on your own and sell items that you don't have with the minimum investment.

Now, with integrated chats in stores and social networks like Twitter, Facebook, etc., you can establish, and maintain, a direct relationship with your clients and have direct access to them.

And because most of the world relies on the Internet as their primary source of information (and many other things), these days, it is possible to do an online-first strategy and, in some cases, ditch any physical location for your business.

Now that everybody can access the Internet through phones, you can reach almost anybody globally with your product, service, and tool.

And this is just one example of how things have drastically changed.

And in the above, we are not even considering the effect of cryptocurrencies, decentralized transactions, and influencing. We are also not considering specialized services meant to make your business's activities, like marketing, accounting, advertisement, etc., more accessible and easier to handle.

As you can see, the rise of online activities has given place to entirely different business models and currencies. But perhaps the most important aspect to highlight is that everything constantly evolves to magnify the reach, productivity and what single individuals or smaller teams can do.

And obviously, the evolution has been given not only in the area of commerce but also in finance, software development, production, marketing, advertisement, education, etc.

Even if we have come a long way, this is just the beginning. New technologies, both in hardware and software, are rising, like satellite internet, faster device speeds, common-wide use of AI, augmented reality, and others.

Magnobusiness will help you keep up with the heartbeat of the online business world.
